What does Jesus want from me?

Who is Jesus

He wants us to have forgiveness

God gave mankind certain rules for us to keep. These rules are reflected in the 10 commandments, which contains such rules as 'do not steal' and 'do not lie' etc. The Bible says that every one of us has broken these rules. This makes us sinners. However God loves us and sent Jesus to take the punishment that we deserve. This made the way open for man to come to God. The Bible says that in order to have our sins forgiven we must first recognise that we are sinners and do not deserve God's love. Then we need say sorry and ask Him to forgive our sin. Having done that we must let Him come into our lives to lead and guide us. If we have done this then we are at peace with God forever. No matter what happens we will always be right with God because of what Jesus has done for us.

He wants a relationship with us

Jesus desire is to have a real friendship, a real relationship with us. When man was first made he was in that relationship, but then mankind sinned and rebelled against God. Our sin comes between God and us. Just as with our earthly relationships, if we do something bad to one of our friends a distance comes in between us, until the matter is sorted out. When we ask Jesus to forgive our sins that relationship is restored, as the sin that keeps us apart is gone.

He wants to take us to heaven

Jesus loves everyone in the world, and wants to take everyone to be with Him for ever in heaven. However we cannot go to heaven in our sin, because God is there and God hates sin. That is why Jesus took the punishment for our sins, so that if we turn to Him for forgiveness, we will be fit to go to heaven with him.

In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself; that where I am, there you may be also. John 14:2-3

He wants to save us from hell

The Bible says that hell is a real place. It was not made for humans; it was made for Satan and his angels. Every one of us deserves to go to hell because we have rebelled against God. Jesus took the penalty of our sins when He died on the cross, so that if we come to Him for forgiveness we will never go to hell. However if we reject God's gift of love He will have no option but to send us to hell.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. John 3:17

He wants us to trust Him with everything

The greatest problem of mankind is that our sin has separated us from God. If we will let him, Jesus wants to take away that sin. He has done everything necessary. Surely if He has solved mankind's greatest problem, He is able to take care of our little day-by-day issues! However He wants us to rely on Him and let Him lead and guide us, because He only wants our good and He knows what is best for us. If we really live our lives for Him, He will bless with joy and fulfillment, peace and satisfaction. The more we get to know Him the more we learn to trust Him. That does not mean that the Christian life is easy, it just means that we have someone with us who is all powerful, all knowing and all loving that we can totally rely upon.

Come unto Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30
